In a recent episode of Product Talks, I was lucky to chat about all things content with Martin Michalik, our VP of Product and Chris Janning, our Director of Presales and Content Strategy. We took stock of how the platform is constantly improving, discussing the features that are helping our customers work more efficiently to speed up their content’s time to value.

I really enjoyed the conversation, and I think you might too.

For those whose interest was piqued during the AI segment specifically, this blog’s for you. Here, I share more about how we see the value of AI for content management and where we’ll continue to focus our development efforts. I also give some extra airtime to the AI features that drive immense value for our enterprise customers.

Let AI take on the monotony

Large volumes of content, global workflows, stringent compliance requirements, and multilingual, multichannel initiatives: the complexity of modern content management is placing new, significant demands on content teams.

How can these folks level up their content strategy, while also maintaining the behemoth machine that is its production? It’s a tall order. And a great place to start our AI discussion.

The AI accelerators we’ve developed in the Kontent.ai platform are designed to alleviate the strain of everyday operational tasks. Consider the potentially mundane, but essential need to keep asset libraries organized, generate metadata for every single asset, or manage translations for every single piece of text. These are often critical aspects of content management, but, so far, handled manually.

Check out how Martin sees it.

AI does the chores you don’t want to do

With AI, teams are equipped to better scale their efforts in these areas. By sharing the burden of routine operations with AI, content creators are less snowed under. This gives them a fighting chance to focus on what they actually like doing.

Here, let’s recap a few AI accelerators that help do just that.

Make content more discoverable

The development of our AI offering is more than just a phone-it-in-to-say-we-have-it feature. We see AI as an essential piece of a thriving content management system. Our customers are looking to address their more urgent and more nuanced challenges; they deserve more than simple text generation.

One of these challenges is content discoverability: finding and using the right piece of content, right asset, or right link at the right time. When managing large volumes of content and assets in one repository, content discoverability support shoots right to the top of the list of requirements.

To ensure content creators can navigate through their content repository, adding context to content is key. But the task itself can be a pain. In the Kontent.ai platform, we have the option for AI to step in to do things like suggest related resources and linked items or classify your images based on what is in them.

Improve content discoverability with AI

Even this kind of assistance leads to a more organized repository, helping teams more easily locate what they need without frustration, uncertainty, or worse, the bloat that comes with unnecessary duplication.

In the Product Talks episode, we also shared some thoughts about how the release of semantic search will be a fantastic addition to content discoverability. Chris, who has extensive experience in the space, talks about how content teams are about to be spoiled. Check it out.

Scale up your translation initiatives

For many of our global customers, especially in highly regulated industries like financial services, healthcare, insurance, and manufacturing, multilingual content is a key aspect of their content delivery

To ensure that the process of translation doesn’t become a bottleneck, AI helps out here too. During our conversation, we showcased how to generate image descriptions and localize them.

A nightmare task now a one-click action

AI works its magic to solve two challenges: ensuring metadata is filled out—checking the box for compliance, meeting accessibility standards, and improving SEO—and also localizing that metadata. It all adds up.

We don’t expect AI to take on everything related to translations. But using AI to relieve the bulk of the manual translation work is something we encourage because it gives teams the time back to refine, polish, and approve the final output.

Cut down on feedback loops

The latest star of the AI accelerators is the ability to review your content with AI against your own style guidelines. This is a biggie for not only our customers, but also our own teams. Yes, we like to drink our own champagne.

See what Martin has to say about the development of this feature:

How to reduce back-and-forth feedback

Reviewing content for consistency, readability, and compliance can be time-consuming, especially if you are obligated to follow very strict guidelines (think forbidden words, industry jargon, reading level, branded terms and spellings). Checking for every single little detail before sending a piece of content through the approval pipeline can be kind of stressful. So, how can AI help? Let it take on the first round of reviews.

Let AI catch issues like forbidden words

In Kontent.ai, AI can comb through your texts and flag issues based on what’s important to you. Simply input your style guidelines into the content model and receive specific call-outs and and suggestions for improvement. If everyone is aligned on these guidelines from the outset, you’ve got a solid baseline for review. And three cheers for the outcome: content that consistently meets your standards without the endless rounds of feedback.

Whatever you need, simply Ask AI

Bringing automation to routine tasks is the ultimate goal. So while we’re not hinging our entire strategy on text generation, we’re also not against the benefits it can bring to content creation. For copywriting, AI should be the tech crew, not the lead.

Kontent.ai’s AI brings flexible support to content writers, allowing them to use a mix of common suggestions and free-form instructions. Requests include matching tone and voice, summarizing content, generating titles, improving content, and more.

Speed up the annoying tasks with AI

The free-form instructions can be used in so many ways, taking care of the unique frustrations that content writers don't want to deal with themselves. Simply click the sparkles or type // followed by your instructions.

AI is there, even for the little things

Ask AI, the AI assistant in the rich text editor, is the one thing that saves my sanity whenever I need to present information in tables. I find it flexible and capable because it always works with whatever you have in the content item. For example, it can rework your list into a table, or even completely rework and rearrange tables. I also use it to assist in brainstorming ideas based on the content I already have. The result is an enhanced writing process that reduces friction and supports creativity.
