You Spoke, We Listened
We heard you when you told us you were having challenges when preparing editorial articles or component-based pages in rich-text, especially when:
- These content items are not usually being reused across the project and thus they were making your inventories less maintainable
- You could not preview those content items right within the parent content items, so the review and commenting caused too much clicking
- These content items have their own workflow, which requires you to publish those items separately
Worry no more—we’ve got a solution that will be music to your ears!
Introducing Components
From today, October 18, 2018, we’re introducing Components. Components let you enrich your content with tweets, testimonials, and other predefined structures.
You can place any Component wherever you like since their structure is based on all the content types you already have.
There are no breaking changes on the delivery side of things, so if you used your “Pull quote” as an inline Content item before, it will work just fine when you use it as a Component now. Plus, if you use Components you'll benefit from:
- No more multiple publishing (because Components won’t have their own workflow)
- No more one-off items bloating your inventory (because Components are the natural part of the parent content item)
Over the coming weeks we’ll be improving comments and revisions for Components. To keep up to date with the latest updates, check out the Kentico Cloud roadmap.
Besides that, we have revisited our lingo so it more reflects the purpose of objects that you use in Kentico Cloud. Here’s the list of new terms and what they will mean to you from now on:
- Linked items: We have renamed Modular content element to Linked items elements to reflect its purpose to make references (Such as author of the blogpost or to build up a navigation)
- Components: We have introduced Components as a natural part of the parent content items
- Content items: We have streamlined the terminology around Modular items, Inline modules, Modular content and we'll just refer to them as Content items.
