Founded in 1950 by Robert Pierce, World Vision International (WVI) is a Christian humanitarian aid, development, and advocacy organization committed to helping children, families, and communities overcome poverty and injustice. Their Childhood Rescue program provides essential aid to ensure children can survive, recover, and build a future.
To support their innovation pilots enabling localized donor experiences across multiple regional markets, WVI sought a flexible and efficient content management system. Kontent.ai provided the right solution at the right time, helping WVI overcome operational hurdles and refine their digital engagement strategies. Check out their story.
In search of a powerful CMS to enhance content translations
WVI has consistently embraced innovation to enhance its global fundraising efforts. As part of this commitment, their team sought a CMS that could streamline content operations and localization to support new donor engagement strategies in regional markets like Spain, Ireland, and Canada. They needed a system that allowed for experimentation while ensuring smooth collaboration between global and regional fundraising teams.
Tim Cromwell, a Senior Advisor for MarTech strategy at World Vision International, played a crucial role in these innovation pilots, identifying Kontent.ai as the right platform to meet their needs. His team focused on testing new donor experiences across markets, but the previous CMS created bottlenecks, especially with translations. “We needed a solution that was flexible, that allowed our colleagues in different offices to work at their own pace,” Tim said.
Whenever new donor experience content was created, it had to be translated before publication. With the previous CMS, all translations had to be completed before any regional office could publish, leading to unnecessary delays. With Kontent.ai, teams could now work asynchronously. “Previously, we weren’t able to easily translate content asynchronously, and Kontent.ai ticked that box for us with the language variants feature. That was huge for us,” Tim noted.
The benefits of decoupled architectures and a headless CMS
From the outset, WVI wanted a MACH (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, and Headless) solution. “I really like decoupled architectures wherein you can compose an entire system out of best-of-breed products rather than being locked into one platform,” said Tim. Kontent.ai aligned with this vision, offering omnichannel content distribution and seamless integration with other tools. “What I like about headless CMS is the ability to send content wherever you need it. That’s really powerful,” he added.
By leveraging Kontent.ai, WVI empowered their regional offices to manage content more efficiently while maintaining a cohesive global strategy. “For example, we had English content, Spanish content, and Irish content. World Vision Spain could edit and manage Spanish content independently, and just view the English content. They had no access to Irish content at all,” Tim explained. This structured governance ensured content integrity while giving local teams the flexibility they needed.
Through these innovation pilots, WVI explored new ways to connect with donors, refining their digital engagement strategies and enhancing localization efforts. Kontent.ai’s structure allowed them to experiment, iterate, and tailor experiences for each market. Their experience with Kontent.ai demonstrated how the right CMS can enable global organizations to innovate, collaborate, and optimize content operations at scale.
