After 7 years of organic growth, today we’re announcing our next big step: Kontent.ai is now a fully fledged standalone company supporting global organizations with our leading modular content platform.
You may have known us as Kontent by Kentico, the headless CMS loved by marketers and developers. We started our journey as a business unit of Kentico Software in 2015. Now freshly minted and thrilled for what’s in store, we also have the distinct pleasure to announce that Kontent.ai has raised $40 million in growth capital from Expedition Growth Capital!
“We’re extremely happy to partner with Expedition Growth Capital, a firm that specializes in investing into companies that so far have successfully operated without external capital. We’re well-aligned on the future product strategy, company values, and culture. This has made closing the deal even easier,” said Petr Palas, Kontent.ai’s founder.
Here, we want to take a moment to elaborate on what this news means for the market and our customers.
Why organizations need a modular content platform
Companies like Zurich Insurance, Algolia, and Oxford University use Kontent.ai’s modular content platform to tell their stories and connect with customers across channels. We’ve built up an incredible portfolio of customers who are true digital leaders in their space.
Content creators have always been our biggest fans. That’s because Kontent.ai is designed to support how business teams actually work, easing the complexities that come with content planning, collaboration, and governance at scale. In parallel, developers enjoy the total flexibility of the headless solution, using the technologies, frameworks, and systems of their choice to deliver seamless digital experiences via API.
Kontent.ai is a true unifier, allowing organizations to create and deliver content – better, faster, and at scale. D’Arcy Heath, Head of Technology and Digital at Unum shared how Kontent.ai supports digital marketing operations for the global insurance company: “Kontent.ai gives us true flexibility and adaptability. It also brings marketing and IT closer together. By leveraging combined skills, we’re able to deliver a scalable omnichannel solution with the customer at its heart.”
Optimizing content operations and the rise of composable AI
Kontent.ai is more than just a new name. It also speaks to how we see the evolution of content management and the role of artificial intelligence in scaling enterprise content operations. We believe every organization can benefit from AI, from creating more relevant content and optimizing results to automating repetitive tasks. But blanketing a generic AI layer over operations will always underdeliver.
Using a modular content platform like Kontent.ai, organizations get to decide exactly how and where to leverage AI to optimize their operations and tackle real challenges. Through purposeful, targeted intelligence – what we call composable AI – teams experience tangible results. By working with Kontent.ai, organizations also benefit from best-of-breed APIs and integrations, no downtime or maintenance concerns, and, most critically, tight governance and security over all operations.
We’re in a unique position to guide organizations on their specific approach to AI. Our track record of technical and strategic consultancy, combined with our vast partner network, has made us a trusted resource for our customers. We’re always looking for new ways to help them succeed.
Oliver Thomas, Managing Partner at Expedition Growth Capital shared his perspective: “We’ve noted the impressive number of global enterprises that are choosing Kontent.ai for headless content management and see huge potential in financing its future as an independent company. With AI unlocking even more powerful opportunities for Kontent.ai customers, we’re confident we’ll see the rewards of product leadership in this category.”
What’s next for Kontent.ai
The opportunity to support our customers and partners at this critical inflection point of digital transformation is such an honor. “With this investment into Kontent.ai, now as its own company, we’re excited to expand our global footprint helping enterprise teams scale their content operations, make the most of machine learning and AI, and deliver exceptional digital experiences. At Kontent.ai, we push the boundaries of content management to give our customers the competitive edge,” said Bart Omlo, CEO of Kontent.ai.
