The navigation tree in spaces represents your website navigation and consists of content items as pages. The actual page content (such as articles, blog posts, or landing pages) lives in separate content items.

Grow your navigation from the root

A root item is any content type that has a Subpages element, which acts as the top-level unit of your navigation hierarchy. With this root item assigned to a space, you can start adding structure to your navigation.

Add content items to the navigation tree

To create a new content item as a page in the navigation tree:
  1. In  Content & assets, open a content item for editing.
  2. Click to reveal the navigation tree.
  3. Hover over the root item and click .
  4. Click Create new page.
  5. If collections are available to you, select one for the new page.
  6. Choose a content type.
  7. Provide a name and title for the new content item.
Now you can start adding content. Use the same approach to add content items anywhere in the navigation tree. If you want to move the page to another collection, open the item you've just created and select a different collection. You can also do that for published items without creating a new version.

Remove content items from the navigation tree

If you want to remove an item from your navigation tree but keep it in the project, remove it from the element it's under.
  1. In  Content & assets, open a content item for editing.
  2. Select the item you want to remove.
  3. In the Content details panel, look at Used in to find out where the item is used.
  4. Open the parent item from Used in.
  5. Find the element where the item is linked.
  6. Click for the item you want to remove.
If you don't want to keep the item in your project anymore, delete it.
  1. In  Content & assets, select the item you want to delete.
  2. Select More actions > Delete.
If the page had any items linked to it, for example, in the Content or other elements, these items will remain in your project without change.

Reorder items

To change the order of items in the navigation tree:
  1. In  Content & assets, go to your root item.
  2. Select an item with subpages you want to reorder.
  3. Find the element that contains the page items.
  4. Drag and drop the page items to reorder them.
The new order is immediately updated in the navigation tree, and you'll see it on the preview shortly.

Make sure your content item has Subpages element in order to add content items as pages.
Need to hide certain items from your navigation tree? For time-limited campaigns and short-term content, you can hide items from your channel. To hide specific items, set a schedule to unpublish them. You can also include a Show in navigation as a multiple choice element in your content type. However, this requires further coding to work. If you don’t want an item in the navigation tree at all, see how to remove pages.
Tip: You can archive the pages you remove from the page tree. This makes it clear they're not in use anymore.
