Fast asset replacement
Replace assets with their new versions on the fly using fast asset replacement. Fast asset replacement is currently available in Innovation Lab.Fast asset replacement considerationsBefore activation, get familiar with how fast asset replacement works and if it may affect your project:
- Replacing an asset affects all content items using it, including published content.
- The asset URL changes after replacement. This affects any uses of or links to the asset.
- The replaced asset is removed from the UI but not from storage and remains available at its original asset URL.
- The replacement ignores content type limitations for the file type, file size, and image resolution.
- The replacement keeps existing asset renditions. This can result in incorrectly customized images. You may need to check them manually afterward.
- The replacement is immediate and cannot be undone.
- In Content & assets, go to Assets.
- Open an asset you want to replace.
- Click > Replace file.
- Select the checkbox to confirm you understand the consequences.
- Click Replace.
- Select the file from your local device to replace the asset.
- Proceed to replace the asset.
Get asset URL
The URL you copy from the asset details may change when you update the asset. If you want to use the asset in your app, we recommend that you insert the asset into a content item and then retrieve the item with the asset. This way, you can be sure you always get the correct asset even after it is updated. When you want to share an asset with your coworkers or link it in an email, get the asset URL:- In Content & assets > Assets, click an asset to open it.
- Click .
- Click Copy asset URL.
- Click .
Delete assets
You can only delete an asset when it’s not used in any of your content items. This also means you can’t delete an asset directly when editing a content item because the asset is used in that item. To delete an asset:- In Content & assets > Assets, click an asset to open it.
- Click .
- Click Delete.
Deleting multiple assets is fail-safeSelect multiple assets at once using Shift + click. After you click Delete assets, only the assets that aren’t currently in use will be deleted.
Restore assets
When you restore an older version of a content item that uses a previously deleted asset, you restore the asset as well. The restored asset will appear in Content & assets > Assets.
