With taxonomies in Kontent.ai, you can tag your content items and assets and boost your productivity. To tag your content items, you need to create a taxonomy group, add taxonomy terms, and add a taxonomy element with the group to the content type of items you wish to tag.

Create a taxonomy group

  1. In Content model, select the Taxonomies tab.
  2. Create a taxonomy group for your taxonomy.
  3. Add taxonomy terms.
  4. Click Save changes.

Manage terms in taxonomy groups

  1. In Content model, select the Taxonomies tab.
  2. Select the taxonomy group you want to manage the terms in.
  3. You can reorder, nest, rename, and delete the taxonomy terms:
    • Reorder the terms in the group by dragging them by the handle.
      • Establish hierarchy by using the handle to nest child terms under the parent term.
    • Click a term to rename it or delete it using the Remove button.
    • Copy or edit a term’s codename after clicking the button.

  1. In Content model, select the Content types tab.
  2. Open the content type to which you want to add the taxonomy group.
  3. Drag (or click) the Taxonomy element.
  4. Name the taxonomy element.
  5. Select the appropriate taxonomy group.
  6. Click Save changes.

We recommend you limit the element to a specific number of terms for validation.
To enable tagging of assets, add a taxonomy element to the asset type.

Tag content items

With the taxonomy element in place, start tagging your content. Check out how to tag content items with taxonomies.
Explore your path to mastery

Deleting taxonomy groups is irreversibleDeleting a taxonomy group is irreversible and affects your published and unpublished content immediately. You can restore the deleted groups right after you delete them, but not later.
Add content groups to keep focus
  • For a better authoring experience, put the taxonomy element in a content group.
  • To restrict certain users from tagging, limit the content group to a specific user role.
